Coming-of-age stories have changed in their representation of youth as the times have changed regarding them. I don't relate to that anymore but I can appreciate the struggle since all the growing pains run parallel.
Megan Park does a fine job with the story and tells it succinctly and easily ingestible. Where the film loses marks for me is in the technical aspects of filmmaking, in particular the editing. It fails the story with weird cuts, poor continuity, and too many cuts in general.
Despite all that, this is a wonderful tale preaching to love your family, don't grow up too fast, and make mistakes... that's how we grow.
Oh, and Aubrey Plaza is a national treasure.
